This Thursday, 16th August, marks the day of destiny for many students who have spent the past two years sweating, toiling and stressing over their A-Level work in the hopes of attaining a good university place and a spot on the degree course that will shape their future.
Despite the media ritual of claiming that the exams and process get easier every year, we can be confident that immense hard work has been expressed over the past few years and there will be a fair few nerves this week.
Whilst we won’t know how this years’ results compare to previous years until later into the week, A-Level results on the whole have been trending up year-on-year for decades, which indicates that the quality of students going through the process is increasing and certainly it can be said that the price of university and commitment required has meant that students take the application much more seriously.
Clearing places will once again come into focus almost immediately after results are announced with some falling short of the requirements of a conditional offer and forced to seek alternative arrangements. Clearing places are the left over spaces that aren’t filled on university course intakes and can be offered out to students at short notice, provided they got the grades that qualify them for acceptance.
Whilst clearing usually involves a majority who may not have got the grades they hoped for, there are also a small number who will receive the pleasant surprise of better than expected grades where they may well be able to apply for clearing places at universities more prestigious than they had planned.
Why does this matter to Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) landlords and investors? A-Level results give us a great indicator of university attendance levels and application rates. We may well know which cities and towns are set to receive a large influx of students and as such a large influx of student tenants.
There is high confidence amongst PBSA landlords and investors that this year will be another bumper year for student intakes meaning another great year for yields and rental growth. If you’re looking to invest in PBSA contact us today to find out more!
